I am quite possibly going to be living with the wrong people next year.

I may not bother going back.

I don't need to.

Ollie,if you're really this unhappy at uni, talk to someone at your student services about maybe taking a year out,or deferring your place. That way,you've got a year to do what you want, get a job/work experience somewhere you WANT to be and time to re-assess what you need to do to get to where you want, with the possibility of being able to go back if you change your mind.
Also,after you're first year,you can pretty much get accepted anywhere, on any course. So maybe it might be worth looking at other unis? Or courses that are similar to what you're doing (I dunno how many unis do the course you're on)?
Talk to your mum,tell her you're not sure how you feel about going back,but you know you don't want to stay on IoM.
